If you visit Iceland you can’t miss the quirky Bónus grocery store pigs. I like to cook my own meals as it allows me to save money, eat healthier and splurge when there is a restaurant I’d really like to try. Iceland is known for being expensive but we were able to find plenty of inexpensive groceries to create delicious meals with. It was tremendously helpful that all of the hostels we stayed in had kitchens with refrigerators, cookware and dishes we could use. We enjoyed granola or omelettes for breakfast and ironically curry was the meal we ate the most, Marissa was an expert at whipping up tasty hot or cold curry!

The hours at Bónus are pretty short. It opens between 10:00am-12:00pm and typically closes around 6:00pm. You have to pay extra for bags so be kind to the environment, save some money and bring your own. My favorite part of grocery shopping in Iceland was trying all of the different chocolate bars and cookies that we don’t have in the states, yum!
