Need a wee break? Here are 5 exciting destinations to fly to from Edinburgh

Scotland’s been voted the world’s most beautiful country  — but although the legendary lochs and glens are lovely, the weather and the national football team can both be brutal.

So if you need a wee break, here are five exciting destinations to fly to from Edinburgh.

  • Prague

Czech capital Prague is chock full of clubs for anyone who wants a walk on the wild side.

And history buffs will appreciate its impressive mix of Romanesque, Renaissance and Rococo architecture.

But it’s also beer heaven and home of legendary brands like Pilsner Urquell, Staropramen and Budvar.

You can even take a dip in your favourite tipple in a beer spa — something that even BrewDog’s new Edinburgh airport bar can’t offer.

  • Madrid

If you book early enough, it’s possible to bag a real bargain on return flights to Madrid from Edinburgh with EasyJet, but KLM and BA also fly regularly.

Madrid attractions include the Reina Sofia Museum and the stunning city skyscape view from the rooftop terrace at Circulo de Bellas Artes.

And if you want to see how Real Madrid have recovered since Aberdeen beat them to win the 1983 European Cup Winner’s Cup Final, check out their trophy cabinet during a Bernadeau Stadium tour.

  • New York City

Manhattan’s the centre of the Big Apple and highlights include the neon lights of Times Square and Central Park’s chilled-out ambience.

But don’t miss the big bears at Bronx Zoo or mouth-watering Caribbean cuisine in Jamaica, Queens.

Most direct flights land a stone’s throw from town at JFK or Newark airports.

Treat your kids to a limo transfer to arrive in style — dropping off the family car at Edinburgh airport parking will seem like a distant memory.

  • Paris

Direct flight to Paris take less than two hours and there are a range of budget and higher-end airlines to choose from.

And the City Of Love is the perfect spot for a romantic trip at any time of year.

Impress your other half by serenading them while you stroll along the Seine and dancing outside the Basilique du Sacre-Coeur above Bohemian Montmartre.

Cap it off with a delectable dinner for two at Le-Coup Chou and let the rest of the night unfold naturally.

  • London

Flights from Edinburgh to London are fast and frequent — an hour and a half hop with 16 time slots daily.

Once you’ve landed in England’s capital, take your pick from an endless list of iconic activities — from the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace to the London Eye.

Music fans heading down in August don’t want to miss the Notting Hill Carnival and there are cool bars and boutiques aplenty in Brixton and Shoreditch.

A visitor oyster card and Google Maps will help you explore the capital with no trouble at all.

Chose any one of these five exciting destinations to fly to from Edinburgh and you’ll return home totally recharged.
