Acadia National Park Winter – Bar Harbor, Maine

  • Share

As a child in Maine my family frequently took trips to the coast. Mount Desert Island was our favorite at about an hour and a half from our house. We had picnics, went camping, explored the beach, and we always got ice cream on the way home. However, like most Maine families, Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park were strictly summer activities. On a recent trip home I thought it would be an interesting experience to go in the winter. My younger sisters did not like this idea, “Do we have to go?” they asked. Secretly I also wondered if it would just be cold and lackluster.

The island was purely magical. Enjoy.

Anna Kate, I always love your pictures! The ones with winter at the beach are my favorite. I've never seen snow or ice at the beach before, but the thought of it simply amazes me.

I don’t think there’s anything quite like a cold clear crisp day with snow on the ground. For me, it makes me feel *more* alive, even i the middle of very cold temperatures. I think it has something to do with the fact that I was raised in an area under dull grey rainy conditions, and I was fortunate to have experienced truly cold winters with lots of sunny days. Beauty for photos, Anna; I could almost feel the cold through the screen!

What incredibly gorgeous photos! I grew up near Saugatuck, Michigan – the small town (and gorgeous beach) are so much fun to visit in winter!

This is beautiful. I’ve only spent a day in Maine at Kennebunk. It’s scenery like this that makes me wish I lived in the Northeast so I could experience beautiful locations like this.
