Over and over again people’s eyes would widen as they emphasized to me the exorbitant cost of food in Hawaii. I actually began to worry about whether or not I had saved enough money for my month long trip. On my first trek to the grocery store I found eggs, salsa, and cheese for half off! I also bought celery, carrots, a large onion and flour tortillas. Guess how much all of that cost me?! (Leave your guess in the comments, scroll to bottom for the answer!)
I was pleasantly surprised, the grand total was $22.48. Mcdonalds does have a dollar menu here, you can shop at local farmer’s markets, food trucks, and the supermarket sales. Of course a lot of things are more expensive here but food doesn’t have to be.
