*Before reading, I want you to guess how much money I spent on the seven shirts, one bracelet and one necklace in the above photo.*
Recently I wrote a post about How to Save Money on Clothes. I thought I would make a new post about a real world example of what a shopping trip looks like for me.
Growing up in rural Maine my mother had to get creative to outfit myself and my three siblings. My mom did not see necessity in buying new clothes for growing children, consequently all of our clothes were gently used from thrift stores. My mom spent the money she saved from not constantly buying new clothes on weekend trips for our family, sending us kids to summer camp and on kayaks, bicycles and other gear to enjoy the outdoors. We did not miss out on anything!
My favorite Goodwill thrift store in is Denver, Colorado. I recently visited some friends in Denver and Goodwill was having a 50% off sale! I was browsing the racks and I found a Fake Problems t-shirt which is my friends indie rock band based out of Naples, Florida where I lived for five years! What a find! I highly recommend you give their music a listen.
You have to spend some time hunting at thrift stores, but for me that is part of the fun! I do buy new clothes occasionally but I would much rather spend my money on travel. I happily left Goodwill with seven shirts, one bracelet and a necklace for the low price of….*drumroll*…..$22.05. Score!!!
