If you are looking for a restaurant that’s a throwback to old New York, The Knickerbocker is the place to go. It isn’t about contemporary arty food, it is all about delicious old school comfort food in a warm environment full of locals. My friend Vinny was in town from Los Angeles so we decided to go check it out. It is located in Greenwich Village near the beautiful Washington Square Park. As I’m from Maine I had to order the lobster raviolis, they were superb. We also shared their caviar pie which was great with the toast it is served with. The highlight of my visit was hands down their famous T-bone steak. It was cooked to perfection and accompanied by mouth watering sides. Huge and full of incredible flavor. The truffle mashed potatoes were divine and we also had asparagus and creamed spinach sides. Vinnie ordered fried chicken which he enjoyed. The portions were generous and the staff was friendly and attentive. I had to order the Chocolate Soufflé for dessert and it was unbelievable.
What really makes this a gem in New York City is all of the Al Hirshfield art adorning the walls. I look forward to coming back some time to try their brunch menu. You should note that on Friday and Saturday night starting at 9:00pm they have live jazz!
