Why charm bracelets are back in fashion
I remember when I was a girl and charm bracelets were all the rage, then suddenly they disappeared off the spectrum. Perhaps the novelty wore off, but recently I’ve seen more and more of them jump back into the high street shops.
Why have they exploded back onto the fashion scene? Suddenly my kids are asking for the latest ones; they want to start to build up all the charms that are going to be on their bracelets, and picking out the ones that mean something to them. I couldn’t help but look into what all the fuss is about. As it turns out, there’s a lot more to charm bracelets than meets the eye.
What do the charms mean?
When I started to look into charm bracelets, I discovered a whole new world of meaning behind them, and I actually started to come around to the idea of buying them for my girls (although I might wait a little longer for the younger ones). Looking at the meaning behind the charms made them think carefully about the things they like and the traits about them that they want to show off to the world.
On the one hand, some parents might find that worrying, because they’re investing too much in what people think, but I’m totally the opposite. I think it’s fantastic that they are already so sure of who they are and the kinds of symbols that speak to them. Actually, after looking at them, I’d say the three symbols I would choose would be the hamsa hand, the dragonfly and the heart.
While the hamsa hand is a protective sign, bringing happiness, luck, health and good fortune (who doesn’t need all of those?), the dragonfly represents courage and strength. Finally, the heart would be the symbol of unconditional love that I have for my kids. You’ll find an incredible collection of charm bracelets from ChloBo that have styles with all of these charms, but you might be wondering, is the look of the charm bracelet really for me?
The power of gemstones
Aside from the many different charms that are on offer, ChloBo also create many bracelets that made from different gemstones. Similar to the charms, each stone supposedly has a property and a power it can bring the wearer.
I personally find all of this great fun; although I don’t strictly believe that wearing a certain type of stone will bring me a sudden windfall of money, I love talking to the girls about it and how they feel stronger for wearing certain things. Labradorite for example is said to be a calming and healing stone, and I definitely think I could use this in a house full of five boisterous kids! Then there’s the soft pink hues of Aventurine, said to be the stone of universal love.
Whatever the reason for charm bracelets being as popular as ever, I certainly hope it becomes a permanent fixture in the fashion world – what would your charm be?
